Chihuahua - Chepe Express - Copper Canyon

The Copper Canyon Pies Ligeros program begins in Chihuahua. During your walking tour through the city you will learn the exciting story of Pancho Villa, the hero of the Mexican Revolution. Then you will visit the Magic Town of Creel from where you will board the worldwide known Chepe Express train to reach the heart of the Sierra Tarahumara. On the edge of the Copper Canyon you will stay in a picturesque hotel created after the construction of the railway line. Here you will live the experience of meeting the indigenous communities of the region: The Tarahumaras. On your way back to Chihuahua you will visit the city of the three Cultures "Cuahutemoc"

Day 1

(Friday): Arrival in Chihuahua

Arrival at the Chihuahua airport, welcome and transfer to the hotel in the center. During a city tour through the historic city you will discover interesting old buildings, a visit to the cathedral, the government palace with its impressive murals by Aaron Piña and the Pancho Villa hero Museum of the Mexican Revolution are included.

Day 2

Saturday: Chepe train from Chihuahua to Creel

Very early transfer from the hotel to the train station to start the journey aboard the legendary Chepe train to Creel “Gateway to the Copper Canyon”.

In the afternoon guided tour in Creel. Visit to Arareco lake and the enigmatic rock formations in the Valley of the Monks. In a short walk you will be able to appreciate the beauty of this valley composed of natural columns up to 50 meters high.

Day 3

Sunday: Train ride with the Chepe Express from Creel to Divisadero

Today you will enjoy the spectacular views of the Sierra Tarahumara aboard the Chepe Express and in the “Barrancas del Cobre” National Park.

At the indicated time, your driver will be waiting for you at the hotel reception and will take you to the train station to start the journey to the heart of the Sierra Tarahumara. Between Creel and Divisadero you will cross the famous bridge “El Lazo” that will take you into the Copper Canyon enjoying fascinating views.

Arrival in Divisadero, welcome at the Divisadero train station and transfer to the hotel.

Where your guide will be waiting for you at the hotel reception to begin activities in the Copper Canyon National Park. You will visit the Balancing  Rock lookout point.

In the local market you can find many handicrafts and souvenirs made by hand by the Rarámuris ladies. With your purchase you support the Tarahumara families.

Later visit to the National Park, where different outdoor activities are possible:

  1. Ride the longest cable car in Mexico (2,750 meters long)
  2. Ride the Zip Rider. A route of 2,550 meters without intermediate towers
  3. “Via Ferrata” – rappelling practice
  4. Zip lines with 7 stations
  5. Aerial forest or canopy

We recommend you to taste a regional dish at the “Barranco” restaurant (to be paid directly) enjoying the wonderful views that it offers to the Copper Canyon.

The afternoon is free for optional walks along the rim of the Copper Canyon. Visit a Tarahumara cave or enjoy the views of this area from your terrace.

After dinner, enjoy the wonderful tranquility of the night and the starry sky from the room’s balcony or from the hotel’s terrace.

Day 4

Monday: Transfer back to Chihuahua

From 8:00 am breakfast in the restaurant. Today you have the morning free to explore the nature and the forrest on your own. You can ride a horse or walk along the edge of the canyon.

At 13:00 hrs the driver will await for you at the hotel reception to start the trip back to Chihuahua.

On the way you cross apple and walnut orchards and the nature of the valleys with a desert air that surround the state capital are present. Optional stop in the city of the three cultures “Cuauhtémoc” to visit a Mennonite family. Arrival in Chihuahua in the afternoon.

Day 5

Tuesday: Departure flight from Chihuahua

The morning is free, depending on the departure time, you can take optional walks. For example, a walk to the cathedral or a guided excursion to the “Nombre de Dios” caves. This mysterious stalactite cave is located in the north of Chihuahua, on the “Cerro del Caballo” mountain.

This cave system extends over a length of 1,492 m. In the grotto you can see numerous stalactites and stalagmites of various shapes.

In order to arrange this excursion optimally, you must confirm us two days in advance.

The tour Copper Canyon Pies Ligeros ends with the transfer to the Chihuahua airport.
