Your adventure aboard the CHEPE EXPRESS begins in the city of Los Mochis and will take you from sea level to a height of over 2,200 m.
Shortly after El Fuerte, the train crosses the “Agua Caliente” bridge, the longest on the route and crosses the Fuerte River at 499 meters. Shortly afterwards, it crosses the longest tunnel “El Descanso”. Along the Septentrion River it ascends between the mountains entering the Sierra Madre. Throughout the journey, CHEPE crosses 86 tunnels and 39 bridges. Canyons, high cliffs, diverse vegetation and a series of waterfalls enrich the entire train route. Your stop today is the Divisadero station. Around 9:15 p.m. arrival at Divisadero Barrancas, welcome and transfer to the hotel located on the edge of the ravine with stunning views.
Overnight in the Copper Canyon
Important note: This program can only be carried out starting on Friday. The Chepe Express train has changed its schedule and no longer operates every day.
Today we recommend getting up very early to take a walk (optional) and see the sunrise.
Guided tour at 9:00 am to the Balancing Rock, to several viewpoints where three of the largest canyons are found: Urique, Cobre and Tararecua.
You will visit the “Barrancas del Cobre National Park”, which is located in the heart of the Sierra Tarahumara, between the Posada Barrancas and Divisadero train stations.
In the National Park you will find a restaurant with a terrace and glass floor from where you can enjoy the majestic landscape. Those who like action can take mountain bike rides for beginners, intermediate and advanced.
The following outdoor activities can be done and paid directly in the Adventure Park:
- Ride on the longest cable car in Mexico (2,750 meters long) that will take you to the heart of the Copper Canyon with a view of the Urique River.
- Ride on Zip rider to 2,550-meter route without intermediate towers.
- “Via Ferrata” / Rappel
- Zip lines with 7 stations
After these unforgettable experiences, you will be taken back to the hotel to have lunch included in the program.
Free afternoon for optional walks along the shore of the Copper Canyon. Visit a Tarahumara cave, where the Rarámuris women offer travelers various handicrafts: weaving baskets, dolls or ceramics. With her purchase she supports indigenous families.
After dinner enjoy the wonderful views offered by the mountainous landscape from your balcony or from the hotel terrace.
Overnight in the Copper Canyon
After breakfast, you will be met at the hotel reception to take you to the train station. At 9:25 a.m. your train journey begins once again with the CHEPE EXPRESS through the spectacular Copper Canyon to El Fuerte, you will see the impressive landscape of mountains with ravines and rivers along the railroad tracks. Unique vegetation changes from pines and oaks in higher places to Amapas, cacti and shrubs in the lowlands.
At 15:05 hours, arrival at El Fuerte station, welcome and transfer to the hotel located in the old town.
Overnight in El Fuerte
After breakfast, guided tour of the old town, discover a set of well-preserved buildings from the Spanish colonial era and the fortress built in the 17th century overlooking “El Fuerte” river.
The Fort was founded by the Spanish Francisco de Ibarra in 1564 and is one of the most beautiful typical towns in northern Sinaloa. It is a colonial town on a walk you can appreciate the kiosk, the Municipal Palace, the House of Culture and the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (XVIII).
In 2010 El Fuerte was awarded as “Magical Town” for its beauty, culture and history.
Transfer from the hotel to Los Mochis airport. You will be driven through one of the most fertile growing regions in northern Mexico.
